You don’t have to face this struggle alone.

We help adults and teenagers who are dealing with general life stress, difficult transitions, grief, trauma, and mental health challenges. We are also specifically trained to work with couples and families struggling with their relationships and longing for healthful change. We do this through one-on-one, couple, or group counselling and coaching.

Our Approach

Whether you are looking for counseling or coaching, there are underlying values that we adhere to within our practice. We are committed to creating a Client-Centered, Non-Judgmental, Curious, Confidential and Faith-based environment.

  • The one who knows the most about you, is you. Counseling and coaching are about getting to know your needs, your goals, and your struggles. Where consultants and gurus become the genius in the room, we facilitate conversations that help you understand yourself better.

  • Suspending personal judgments, biases, and preconceptions to create a safe and accepting space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without the fear of being judged. In other words, allowing you to express yourself without fear of criticism.

  • In counseling and coaching alike curiosity is an essential skill for thinking outside the box, creatively and non-judgmentally. It involves being open to what emerges from discussions and stimulates your curiosity. Curiosity invites exploration, discovery, and flexibility in finding solutions.

  • In order to create an alliance between us trust needs to be established. Trust comes through relationship, communication, and confidentiality. You need to know that what is said in session is between you and your counselor/coach.

Even when you are coming through an office arrangement/sponsorship we do not share or report to anyone unless required by state or provincial law. At which time a release of information will be signed. (Check here for an explanation)

  • Everyone has a perspective through which they see the world. At Harvey 6 Counselling & Coaching we see through a Christ-Centered Worldview. This means we believe you exist with a divine purpose.

When you receive counseling, faith and spirituality are elements only integrated into counseling if you specifically request this. If you request traditional mental health counseling without a faith component, you’ll find that we honor this with integrity. In fact, many of our clients come from non-religious and from different spiritual beliefs.

 Questions

  • Before we were Harvey 6 Counselling, we were just the Harvey 6: Shawn, Keri and four kids.

Our family motto is, “We are Harvey’s, we look out for others.” So, it made sense to name our business after our family. In our work, we aim to be there for people in a caring, compassionate way.

It has been said that the quality of our lives are determined by the quality of our relationships.

This is the most true in our families, whether given or chosen.

When our family is strong, it serves as a springboard that launches us into life. When our support system is strong, we feel confident and brave; ready to take on the world.

On the other hand, when relationships are fragmented, hostile or broken, our quality of life decreases. Here at Harvey 6 Counseling and Coaching, we aim to create a space where you can mend and heal mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

As our team grows, we aim to maintain the value of a family-centered experience.

  • Coaches and Counselors typically follow distinct educational and licensing paths. While counseling requires formal education in counseling, social work, or psychology, along with relevant licensure or certification. Coaching doesn’t require certification; however, our coaches adhere to the International Coaching Federation’s code of ethics.

Coaching adopts a future-oriented approach, concentrating on goal-setting, performance improvement and action-oriented strategies. In contrast, counseling takes a holistic perspective that isn’t bound to achieving action-based goals. Counseling unpacks past and present experiences and their impact on the individual’s emotions and behaviors.

Understanding when to recommend coaching versus counseling depends on the client’s needs and goals. For instance, individuals grappling with past trauma, unresolved emotions or mental health concerns may benefit more from counseling, where they can explore deep-seated issues and work toward healing.

Clients seeking guidance in setting career goals, enhancing leadership skills or navigating life transitions may find coaching more beneficial, as it offers practical strategies and accountability to achieve desired outcomes within a set timeline.

At Harvey 6 Counseling, we do not evaluate, diagnose, or treat mental health disorders and do not provide psychotherapy.

  • Counseling is an investment into your health and well-being, life satisfaction, relationships, and your future. It is a vehicle through which you find peace, healing, relationship restoration, understanding and validation.

Harvey 6 Counseling & Coaching is a private pay practice in the United States.

Our rates are listed in Services

  • This option means you are responsible for the entire fee for each counseling or coaching session. It is based on an hourly rate determined by the practice. Fees are collected via credit card or advanced payment of check or third-party. Third-party payments (churches or family members) are permitted if arranged in advance with the practice manager.

  • Utilizing the private-pay option for counseling puts you in control of your counseling in a few different ways:

    • Choice – you choose your therapist rather than selecting off a list from your insurance.

    • Privacy – Your information is not being sent to an insurance company to authorize treatment or monitor progress, which means no one knows you are receiving counseling unless you disclose this information.

    • Freedom – Health insurance requires a diagnosis to authorize treatment; this is not the case when you use private-pay, which means you and your therapist have the option not to label your struggle with a diagnosis.

  • Yes, depending on the needs we may be able to bill through insurance, however we would discuss these options on an individual basis.
